GNBS: standards, meters, and what is not a licence

The Guyana National Bureau of Standards publishes standards and legal metrology. A standard is not automatically a criminal offence.

What the official sources say

The Guyana National Bureau of Standards is the national standards body, established under the Standards Act. Its public site is gnbsgy.org. It has described petroleum-related standards, including natural-gas quality, LPG, and fuel oils, and it has said some of those were requested by the Guyana Energy Agency. It has also described a metrology role for custody-transfer measurement. Confirm the current catalogue and the gazette before you treat a standard as compulsory.

A GNBS standard, a GEA licence, and an operator's technical specification are three different documents. Voluntary standards are not offences. Compulsory standards still need the gazette, not a blog post. This page does not copy GNBS telephone numbers. Public contact for PetroMetric remains (592) 600-1096 and service@computingcore.net.

Questions people ask

Does GNBS issue the local content certificate?

No. That certificate is a Local Content Secretariat function. GNBS publishes standards and provides metrology and related services.

Are all GNBS petroleum standards compulsory?

No. GNBS's own article distinguishes voluntary natural-gas standards from LPG and fuel-oil specifications it described as compulsory after a GEA gazette. Check the current gazette.

Will PetroMetric list a GNBS phone number?

No. The only public phone on this site is (592) 600-1096. Use the official GNBS website for the Bureau's own contacts.
